A Uni-que Scenario

Your Country Needs You – Winner – Uni5 6-1, Miss Fitz 10-1 (Stan James)

Your Country Needs You is live on BBC1 this Friday, with six acts in the mix to represent the UK at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, taking place in Oslo on Saturday May 29.
Pete Waterman has penned the track with his old mate Mike Stock, but it won’t be heard until final night.
The six acts will perform live before a panel of judges, before 3 acts are selected to sing the Waterman track, and then it will be based on the public vote as to who will go on to represent the UK in Oslo.
Checking out the contestants biographies, the one thing that most caught our eye is that the group Uni5 have been formed especially for the show. Last year, Jade Ewen was so massively ramped it was obvious the BBC wanted her to win through, and we wonder if something similar is afoot with Uni5.
The other act that might do well with the public is Miss Fitz because they have the advantage of an existing brand, already known to the reality show voting demographic because of their appearance in X Factor last year.
And it is worth remembering Andy Abraham, runner up in X Factor in 2005, went on to represent the UK at Eurovision in 2008, although he made it a lot further than Miss Fitz who didn’t even make the final 12. We can only hope the Waterman track is much better than the dire tune Abraham had to sang:

Overall, we would recommend backing Uni5 at a best-priced 6-1 with Stan James and Miss Fitz at a best-priced 10-1 with Stan James in the belief the Waterman number could much better suit a group, given the formation of Uni5. Out of the two, we would suggest placing the heftier wager on Uni5.
