TPTB could not make their intentions any clearer in their treatment of Nigel last Saturday. Mistakes highlighted again and a punitive score of 31 awarded for his pimp slot QS. They then left him until last to be called safe in the results show.

You get a strong sense they are trying their damnedest to dismantle Nigel’s vote but when they are as heavy handed as they were in Blackpool the chances are they only managed to increase his support. Brits like fair play and there has been a stark and transparent lack of fair play with him.

He has rumba tomorrow night which looks an open goal for the judges to be pernicious once more. The issue they have is, a romantic, storytelling routine is sure to be superbly crafted by Katya and play well to Nigel’s demo, so if they stick the boot in again, and place Nigel low on the leaderboard, his fans will come out in force once more.

This has the feel of a series-long takedown not dissimilar to Will Mellor last year and it’s doubtful they can get Nigel into the bottom two tomorrow. When you look at last week’s leaderboard all of Nigel, Annabel and Angela S must have outpolled Bobby. Bobby opened the show, it was a lacklustre jive and his bottom two appearance tells us his vote isn’t the most robust.

Blackpool Week (Week 9) judges’ leaderboard:

Layton and Nikita: Couple’s Choice – (3) – 9, 10, 10, 10 = 39
Ellie and Vito: Charleston – (5) – 9, 10, 10, 10 = 39
Angela S and Carlos: Argentine Tango – (6) – 8, 10, 10, 10 = 38
Bobby and Dianne: Jive – (1) – 8, 9, 9, 9 = 35 – bottom 2
Annabel and Johannes: American Smooth – (4) – 8, 9, 9, 9 = 35
Nigel and Katya: Quickstep – (7) – 7, 8, 8, 8 = 31
Angela R and Kai: American Smooth – (2) – 6, 7, 7, 8 = 28 – eliminated

But you can envisage an altogether different script and score in play with Bobby tomorrow night playing his CC card. This looks a likely pimp slot with 9s and 10s awarded for a contemporary routine that tugs at the heartstrings paying tribute to his late mum.

If Bobby is placed at the top of the leaderboard, Layton is going to be under serious threat of landing in the dance-off. It looks a certainty he is polling last so second top for him or ties to concertina things and he will likely have dance-off assassin duties.

If Bobby is placed at the top of the leaderboard, Layton is going to be under serious threat of landing in the dance-off

An AS for Layton certainly isn’t a guaranteed table topper for him as he has shown a hint of weakness performing ballroom routines. Who might Layton end up taking out? Similar to Nigel, you sense Ellie is flying too high as of now to be dragged down into the dance-off as much as that Destiny’s Child song doesn’t look ideal for a stand-out AT and she is overdue an early r.o. slot and a dip in form.

So it looks most likely between Angela and Annabel neither of whom are yet to enjoy a pimp slot. Whenever CCC is asked of a contestant at such a critical stage of the competition, it sets off the warning bells.

As the only truly uptempo routine of the night, Angela may well open the show. We have just seen what they did to Bobby in the coffin slot in Blackpool and CCC is fiendishly difficult to land a high score with regardless of the fact it is week 10.

Annabel has had two solid weeks but paso will definitely be out of her comfort zone

That said, they have been highlighting Angela’s fast Latin improvement and the straight-legged technique CCC demands looks a better fit with her than salsa would have been. Last night’s training footage looked encouraging.

Angela is also arriving on the back of her stunning AT in Blackpool and she seems to be building some momentum at the business end of the competition.

She is yet to do her CC and Shirley namechecked rumba as a good dance for her. So there is hope for Angela backers her journey can continue.

Tess introed Annabel last Saturday telling the audience, ‘surprised to still be in the competition…’. Even with a well-executed AS she was scored third last. She has had two solid weeks but paso will definitely be out of her comfort zone.

Annabel’s strength lies in being a delicate English rose dancing elegant ballroom numbers and this will require a sense of power in commanding the stage, calling upon a degree of acting skill.

It is all going to come down to the script and how TPTB decide to play it on the night. It looks likely Nigel, Annabel and Angela will be the bottom three on the leaderboard and how they are ordered is going to be pivotal. If Layton isn’t afforded clear protection it will end up a pv shoot-out between them in deciding which one potentially ends up the lamb to the slaughter vs him in the dance-off.

While Nigel has a tried and tested vote, and has been at the top of our exit poll across the series, the pv split between Ellie, Annabel and Angela S looks more fluid and subject to change according to weekly treatment. There wasn’t much between them on our exit poll last week so it’s all to play for.

Given how clinical TPTB have been managing this year’s eliminations it will probably be quite easy to spot who’s in their crosshairs. Please do let us know who got your vote(s) when the week 10 exit poll opens during tomorrow night’s show.

  1. Lucy

If Annabel gets the pimp slot tomorrow and Angela doesn’t get eliminated, I can see Angela getting pimp slot with a quick step or CC next week which would be the best scenario for Angela backers. Is this what TPTB are planning? Very unfair that we are at week 10 now and shes the only one that hasn’t gone last (That’s assuming Annabel goes last tomorrow) Keeping everything crossed that Angela survives! Perhaps the song choice is a clue

  2. Stoney

I think the song choice is a nice subtle hint from the producers. They have done a great job of fooling the public that Ellie is set to be a run away winner this series. I think we will find out tomorrow which one of the 2 A’s they are going to get behind for the final weeks leading up to the final.

  3. Lucy

Annabel was name checked as a finalist on ITT tonight. Do TPTB have any control over what celebrity guests say?

  4. Stoney

Angela looking great in the latest training vid!

  5. Stoney

I can see Nigel slipping into the bottom 2 tonight. Looking at his social media stats they have been dwindling, aside from here and digital spy. They will throw the kitchen sink at Bobby tonight to get him top. A good night for the 2 A’s, will enable them to ease him into the bottom 2 and send him packing in a dance off against any of the remaining contestants. Would likely be Layton though.

  6. Steve

I think Nigel is very much in their sights tonight, with Layton ready to step up and do his first assassination job. A specific ordering of the leaderboard with no ties could easily manipulate the result. Chuck Nigel on second sandwiched between Ellie and Layton (or a heavily praised Angela), give him faint praise and a score hovering around 30 and it might be all over for him. I really feel for him. Producer intention and precision has helped with betting on eliminations but it’s taken the joy out of watching the show.

  7. Lucy

The elimination odds have turned around since this morning! Annabel now favourite with Nigel close behind. Fingers crossed they get it right and Angela avoids the DO

  8. Stoney

We are in trouble here. Angela has basically got to out poll Nigel to avoid the dance off 🙁

    • Lucy

It’s very clear they are pushing Annabel instead of Angela. Bottom of the leaderboard

  9. Laurie Stone

Yep I managed to get on the 25/1 for Anabel Incase she got the nod. At the moment and Ellie win for me is rice and beans for Xmas dinner 🙁

    • Lucy

Angela’s AT was a lot better than Ellies imo

      • Stoney

Angela was stitched up big time tonight. I guess they never had any long term plans for her after all. No news on the tour for her either. She did have a little dig at the judges tonight, and rightly so. Never got a couples choice or the pre mentioned Rhumba :/
I am pretty sure the biggest scoring dance of the show social media wise so far is Anabels CC. Wonder if they would let her reprise that in the final, would likely be a big advantage.

        • Rob

Annabel initially looked in their sights, dancing from the dreaded 3 slot, but the Motsi/Shirley double s.o. told you everything. Angela S on the receiving end of poor treatment across the series. Great shame we won’t get to see her CC, or rumba, or QS. She had more to offer but for whatever reason her face didn’t fit. Anton and Shirley did score both Layton and Angela the same – it’s the hope that kills you.

          • Stoney

Hadnt thought of it like that. The problem is tonight showed no signs that they would help her win the competition. Although maybe as my previous straw clutches drew me towards, maybe they want a bottom 2 winner this year.
It is indeed the hope that kills you, ha ha.

  10. Steve

Poor Angela. Would have made me a small fortune but they seem to have jumped on the Annabell horse

  11. Stoney

Mad to think that Anabel is now second favorite. I do still think my judgment on them wanting a different winner other than Ellie will be proven right. But yes seems it could only be one of the 2 A’s.
A final of Layton, Ellie and the heavily pushed non dancer Anabel seems the likely scenario now.

  12. Donna

Did you see the full tour line up was announced this morning. Krishnan along with Bobby, Layton, Annabel, Angela R&S and Ellie. As Nigel isn’t touring I expect that is the reason for the judges treatment of him. But he still has a lot of support, especially on DS, so it will be interesting to see if TPTB will try and land him in the bottom two and oust him. What do you think?

    • Stoney

Yes I would imagine his treatment is certainly linked to him not touring.
Also if Annabelle has been the chosen one all along, I imagine Nigels vote would transfer across to her. With a final of 2 series long/young trained dancers to compete with in the final, it would be fairly straight forward to navigate her to the glitterball.
The last few weeks Ellie has had some very clear signs of decamping. Can’t understand the odds with her at this point.
