Glittering Prize

August has arrived which means Strictly 2023 is just around the corner and we should start to see the gradual reveal of this year’s celebrity contestants in the coming days and weeks.
We are expecting a 15-strong field with this year’s launch show – when the pairings are revealed – filmed on Wednesday September 6.
Following the pattern of recent years, this should be shown on BBC1 on Saturday September 16, before the first live show on September 23, with the grand final for the Glitterball Trophy pencilled in for December 16.
With 18 pro dancers on this year’s rota, this means three of them will mostly likely be benched. Amy Dowden will miss this year’s series, so this could see one of Luba Mushtuk, Michelle Tsiakkas and Lauren Oakley come in as her replacement.
As usual, Digital Spy’s Strictly forum will soon go into overdrive with the traditional guessing game seeking to match celeb’s heights, ages and profiles with the most suitable pros, sleuthing for clues on social media, before being surprised when we find out how it all pans out on September 6.
The full line-up was confirmed on August 11: Amanda Abbington, Angela Rippon, Layton Williams, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Eddie Kadi, Angela Scanlon, Zara McDermott, Adam Thomas, Nikita Kanda, Ellie Leach, Jody Cundy, Bobby Brazier, Nigel Harman, Annabel Croft and Les Dennis.
Fleur East replaces Rylan Clark on It Takes Two and will join Janette Manrara who is expected to return to the show having recently given birth. The judging panel remains the same while we should see an early tribute on the show to long-standing head judge Len Goodman who sadly passed away in April.
This year’s autumn subscription is now open, being offered for the great value price of £60. Last year, it achieved a profit of +52pts, the year before +53pts. It has yielded profit, year in, year out, with 2019, the year of Kelvin Fletcher and Emma Barton, delivering an incredible +140pt profit.
As well as Strictly coverage across the series, all the major Specials will be included as part of the subscription in the lead up to Christmas, including the Mercury Music Prize, Primetime Emmys, I’m A Celebrity… and Sports Personality of the Year.

Hi Rob,I Can’t wait to get cracking on another season after a bit of a mare last year. Not often I’ve lost money on strictly so can’t complain, even though my gut feeling on Helen was right, I would guess they very nearly got her over the line.
This year I feel it will be full throttle on the make sure we get a female winner.
The one I’m calling from this point is Angela Scanlon. Not the ideal partner for her, but seems the one that ticks all the boxes for the traditional female winner.
Hi Stoney. Looking forward to the start of the series as well. Hopefully a vintage year for traders. Angela S does have the right profile. I was disappointed to see her paired with Carlos, having been anticipating Kai. But it’s hard to draw to too many conclusions until we see the couples interacting together & what they bring in front of the camera as much as on the dance-floor.
